Augustine Elijah Ashawye

I am a dedicated Clinical Psychologist with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Jos and a strong background in psychological assessment, psychotherapy, and mental health support. My professional experience spans clinical, community, and institutional settings where I have provided evidence-based psychological services to individuals facing a range of mental health challenges. I currently serve as a Resident Psychologist at Vanguard Against Drug Abuse (VGADA) in Abuja, where I provide psychotherapeutic interventions, conduct individual and group therapy sessions, and support the diagnosis and treatment of clients with various mental health and substance use disorders. My work focuses on helping individuals in recovery develop coping strategies, improve emotional regulation, and rebuild healthier lifestyles. Previously, I completed a clinical internship at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where I gained hands-on experience in psychological assessment, psychotherapy, and counseling services. During this time, I worked with multidisciplinary teams to support patients’ mental health needs, conducted pre- and post-HIV test counseling, and became familiar with a range of psychological testing tools and clinical procedures. In addition to my clinical work, I have experience providing counseling and mentorship to young people through community outreach programs, including my volunteer work with Teenagers’ Outreach Ministries. I have also served as a college counselor during my National Youth Service, where I guided students on academic, personal, and behavioral challenges. My professional training includes multiple certifications in suicide prevention, crisis care, patient safety, and psychosocial assessment in collaboration with the Mental Health Academy and the British Psychological Society. I possess strong skills in psychological evaluation, DSM-5 diagnostic understanding, therapeutic communication, and culturally sensitive mental health care. As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist Intern at Mantra Care, I aim to contribute my clinical knowledge, counseling experience, and passion for mental health advocacy to support individuals globally in achieving improved psychological wellbeing through accessible, compassionate, and evidence-based care.
