In the Fall of 2021, I worked as a Counseling Intern (250 hours) for Ausable Valley CMH, the main office in West Branch, MI. I learned so much, getting experience in Access and Emergency Services, learning how to utilize the DSM-5 book, along with screening tests, to diagnose client disorders. I shadowed therapists' appointments with clients, writing progress notes and comparing those to what the therapist had written. I also worked with therapists, in developing plans of service which included goals and objectives. Along with studying many therapies in college (with my Master’s in Addiction Counseling), in my internship, I watched as therapists used different methods such as EMDR, CBT, DBT, and Mindfulness with clients. My internship was during the time of Covid so i gained a little experience in group therapy. At that time, groups were not getting together.
