About

As a therapy intern, I will work under the supervision of a licensed psychologist or mental health professional to gain practical experience in therapeutic settings. My primary role will be to observe, learn, and gradually participate in the therapeutic process while strictly adhering to ethical guidelines, confidentiality, and professional boundaries. I will assist in conducting intake sessions by helping collect basic client information, understanding presenting concerns, and organizing case histories. I will observe individual and group therapy sessions to understand different therapeutic approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, and basic counseling techniques. Under supervision, I may conduct rapport-building sessions, supportive counseling, and psychoeducation sessions for clients. I will help in administering, scoring, and interpreting basic psychological assessments and screening tools as permitted, and assist in maintaining accurate and confidential case records, progress notes, and reports. Documentation will be done carefully to reflect client progress, therapeutic goals, and session outcomes. As a therapy intern, I will also participate in case discussions, supervision meetings, and team reviews to gain insight into diagnosis, treatment planning, and ethical decision-making. I will actively seek feedback from supervisors to improve my communication skills, empathy, and clinical judgment. In addition, I may assist in designing and delivering mental health awareness programs, workshops, or psychoeducational materials for clients or the community. I will stay updated with current psychological literature and evidence-based practices to enhance my learning. Overall, my role as a therapy intern will focus on learning through observation and guided practice, developing basic therapeutic skills, understanding client needs holistically, and building a strong foundation for future professional practice in the field of mental health, while always prioritizing client well-being and ethical responsibility.
